Renowned titan in the gaming world, Ubisoft, has unleashed its Rabbids NFTs into the world of Reddit, offering a humorous and exciting way for users to customize their profiles on the social media platform. First debuting in the mid-2000s, these unusual-looking alien rabbit creatures have a vast history in the gaming world, most notably featuring in Nintendo’s much-loved Mario franchise. Now, they are acquirable as Polygon NFTs for all Reddit users to enjoy.

These “digital assets” designs vary from grumpy knights clutching a plunger to radiant unicorn rabbits proudly modeling a golden plunger. The plunger honors earlier Rabbids games due to being the characters’ leading weapon. Reddit shared the exciting news on Twitter, adding a unique twist to Reddit’s already-launched and well-received avatar experience.

Ubisoft Rabbids NFTs are likely to carry more weight than one may initially think. In the past, Reddit users have demonstrated much enthusiasm for the social platform’s ‘Snoo’ NFT avatars which debuted in July 2022. Releasing over 13.5 million individual NFTs, Snoo collectibles have an extensive market cap of $330 million, despite many digital assets being distributed to Reddit users as freebies. Consequently, $32.6 million of these funds are through secondary sales, holding a volume of around 300,000 transactions. In February, the NFTs witnessed over 4 million new mints in just two months.

Ubisoft’s Web3 Engagements – Pros and Cons

This is not the first time Ubisoft has plunged into NFTs, albeit not without encountering a fair share of disruption. Experimenting early with Tezos NFTs, critics were skeptical of the gaming giant’s first batch of digital assets in the game ‘Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Breakpoint’, with many citing concerns over equitable access and environmental impact. 

Regardless of these roadblocks, Ubisoft is committed to harnessing and exploring the potential of NFT gaming. The company joined forces with Integral Reality Labs (IRL), birthing successful Assassin’s Creed “Smart Collectibles” just weeks ago. 

Ubisoft Rabbids NFTs signify affirmation of its progressive orientation and willingness to embrace digital ownership through blockchain technology, representing an intriguing future for gamers and the Reddit platform.
