NFT Market NFT REVIEW NEWS OpenSea Upgrades its Auto-Hide Function to Better Protect its Users

NFT trading giant, OpenSea, has launched a series of updates to help protect its users from the evil stratagem of blockchain criminals. Therefore, training its algorithm to more effectively detect suspicious NFT transfers, before consigning them to the hidden folder.

Following the rise of popularity of NFTs, a number of dubious minds have exploited the tech for their own gain, commonly embedding phishing bait inside a non-fungible token, then casting far and wide in the hope of a bite. After interacting with the item, an embedded link will take the user to a third party site in a bid to hijack their assets.

In the wake of this unwelcome behaviour, OpenSea has embarked on a mission to optimize its security protocols. Its latest update now has a built-in function that spots unsolicited material, before sending it directly to the hidden folder. In addition, an in-app banner will now notify users when this has occurred. Meanwhile, an additional filter allows users to sort between items they have hidden themselves, and those deemed as errant transfers.

Going forward, OpenSea will continue to fine tune its algorithm to reduce the number of legitimate transfers picked up through the function. So, always check the hidden folder first if any NFTs seem waylaid.
