The Securities and Exchange Commission’s Small Business Capital Formation Advisory Committee today released the agenda for its meeting on Tuesday, September 19. The meeting will include a discussion of ways to invest in early-stage companies, as well as alternative funding options for small businesses. Members of the public can watch the live meeting via webcast on www.sec.gov.
The Committee, which provides advice and recommendations to the Commission on rules, regulations, and policy matters relating to small businesses, will use the morning session to discuss the funds that support early-stage companies, including underrepresented founders. The Committee will hear from a partner at an investment firm to learn more about the investment strategies and factors that affect investor decision-making and discuss the influence that early-stage funds and their investors have on capital flow. As part of this discussion, the Committee will explore how to increase the diversity among investors and ways to incentivize change.
In the afternoon session, the Committee will discuss alternative pathways—beyond traditional equity investments—for small companies seeking long-term capital to fund and grow their businesses. Panelists will share information on alternative funding options for smaller companies that struggle to access bank funding and lack the growth curve model that venture capital funds generally seek.
